Sierra Nevada

So many different hikes in the area but we opted for the these three.  See some of our photos here.

Vereda De Estrella

Distance: 21km

Duration: 8 hours

Difficulty: Moderate (decent amount of ascent +800m)

Desirability: One of the top hikes to do in the area. We loved it!

Description: After a hair raising drive along a single track road, through blind tunnels you arrive at the car park.  You then follow the trail above the bottom of the gorge before descending down to cross over the water.  The trail then zig zags up the mountain, through a lush pine forest.  There are a couple of Refugio's on route offering excellent spots for snacking and lunching. The views of Mulhacen, Alcazaba and Veleta are incredible.

El Trevenque

Distance: 13km

Duration: 5 hours 25

Difficulty: Hard

Desirability: Brilliant hike with 360 views, tough going on the scree though

Description: A challenging walk with various routes to / form the summit.  Easy going for the first part, through rugged terrain with incredible views of the adjacent ridge.  The final push to the summit it pretty challenging - steep with a lot of loose rock.  Walking poles 100% recommended, especially for the descent.

Los Cahorros de Monachil

Coming soon!

Distance: 8km

Duration: 2 hours 40

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate - good mobility required!

Desirability: A fantastic little fun hike, very popular with families.  A few suspension bridges to bounce across and some ducking and diving required to get passed some parts of the canyon.  Incredible views during the second half of the walk once you've left the canyon and gained some height.  We really enjoyed this one but you need to be prepared to get on your hands and knees at points so it's not for everyone.
